Summary
In September 2022 Sophie Parrish received anonymous messages and discovered images and videos taken in her home and digitally altered pictures with her face superimposed onto other women’s bodies, some of which had been posted on the messaging app Kik. Merseyside Police later said Karl Marshall created 266 sexually explicit deepfake images using AI and the faces of real women and children between July 2023 and January 2024.
Marshall was arrested, rearrested after a law criminalizing the sharing of non-consensual explicit deepfake images was introduced in January 2024, and on Oct. 22, 2024 he pleaded guilty to voyeurism, sharing intimate photos and making indecent images of a child. He was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.
